Lake Blue Ridge Fishing Report – September 2008

Blue Ridge: Level: 11 feet below full pool. Temp: Upper 70 degrees. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Decent for August, according to Nathan Lewis. “The fish — mostly spots and smallmouths — are starting to break some,” he said. “We are catching a few more largemouths around shallow shoreline cover on things like a jig ’n pig or buzzbait. The fish are shallow, less than 6 feet.” The smallmouths are running deeper and hitting tube jigs in water 10 or 12 feet deep. B.J. Howard said he has been trout fishing rather than bass fishing on Blue Ridge. “It is awful when two fish can win a tournament. The better fishing has been the same old thing: fishing worms or drop-shot rigs in deep brush.”

Walleye: On the last full moon, the walleye fishing was good, said Nathan. “We caught fish shallow on doll flies and Shad Raps. During the day, we are catching them trolling weighted Shad Raps, Mann’s Stretch 20s or jerkbaits.”
