Clarks Hill Lake Fishing Report September 2016
GON Staff | August 30, 2016
Clarks Hill: Level: 4.7 feet low. Temp: Mid to upper 80s. Clarity: Very clear.
Linesides: Guide William Sasser reports, “The hybrid and striper bites have maintained really strong all summer long. There has been a great morning bite starting shortly after daybreak, with downlining live herring working the best. This bite lasts for a couple of hours, and then a good artificial bite is starting late in the morning and lasts until mid afternoon. Umbrella rigs have been working really well for those who like trolling, and the magnum spoons have really produced for those who like jigging. As the afternoon turns into evening, the bite swaps back over to a live-bait bite exactly like the morning time. For the most part the fish are holding really close to the upper and lower dams due to water temperatures and oxygen quality. We are in a transition faze where the fish are starting to chase the bait shallower, but there are also some groups that are holding deep. The best advice is to work the edges of the main channel over really well in an area and watch your graph. Some fish are coming 25 feet deep suspended, and some are coming 60 feet deep on the bottom. We are starting to see scattered fish breaking the surface and the bait shallower in the water column, which means keep a topwater plug closeby because they will be schooling soon.”
