Hunt Story
It was New Year’s Day, and I was sitting in the deer stand with my daddy, Shannon Odom. We were looking at pictures on my daddy’s phone of the deer that he wanted me to shoot. While we were doing that, a doe showed up and spotted us, so she blew for a minute and ran. Then another doe showed up, and behind her was a big six that we were looking for to shoot. I got the gun up, and by the time I got the gun up he had already passed and I couldn’t get a shot. My daddy said he might come back, so the doe that was blowing came back and so did the big six. I got the gun back up and held it on the buck. He would not stop, so my daddy stopped him by making a buck sound. I held the crosshairs on the buck's shoulder and squeezed the trigger. He was supposed to drop where he was standing but he didn’t. I thought I made a bad shot, so we got down to look for blood and found blood, a lot of blood. We tracked about 50 yards and found my buck. I shot him low in the shoulder. I was so lucky that day. What a way to start the New Year with a great buck!
