Hunt Story
I was standing up in my stand around 10:45 about to get down because it was getting time to leave, and to my right I saw a doe. Right away I noticed two more behind her, so I texted a buddy of mine who was hunting with me (just for does and hogs) that I had just seen 3 does, and as soon as I got done I looked up and saw a buck behind them. But the does were headed right for me and I couldn't get my binoculars up because I was scared the does would spot me and then he'd run off. So I just stayed really still, and the does walked past me at less than 5 yards. Sure enough he started following them, and when he walked I saw he was limping. As soon as his rack hit the sunlight, I could see he was the buck I was after! (I had shot this buck earlier this season with my bow, but never could find him). I was trying to focus and not do anything stupid because my heart was beating out of my chest, but he walked right behind me just like the does did, and a when his head went behind a tree I grabbed my rifle and he swung his head and looked at me so I froze. But he went on like nothing was wrong. He walked out to 10 yards and I "baaaa" at him, and he stopped and I shot. He took off and ran out of sight. I tried to shoot again but I didn't get another bullet in when I bolted. Then my buddy came up and helped me look, and he had died almost as soon as he had gone out of sight, only about 50 yards. It was perhaps the best hunt I have ever been on! Come to find out besides the wound he had from the arrow he had a bad wound on his butt, apparently from fighting, possibly wouldn't have survived the winter. He had lost probably 50 pounds! He was skin and bones! But thank You Lord for amazing times like these!
