Hunt Story
Front was blowing in and weather was getting cooler. Rained off and on during the day with moderate wind. Wind died down about 5:35. Once it got calm, I could hear something wading in the water making its way toward me. After glassing through the woods for several minutes, I was able pick the deer up in my binoculars. Catching just bits and pieces as he walked parallel to me, I was able to determine it was a mature buck. He wouldn't respond to grunts or a snort wheeze and just continued at a steady pace through the flooded bottom. I had one small hole that I thought he may pass through, so I positioned my gun on it. When he reached the small opening, which was about 130 yards from my stand, I stopped him with a sharp yell, but he stopped just short with a tree covering his vitals. When he took another step, his shoulder came into the hole and I squeezed a shot off. He ran about 30 yards before I heard him crash.
