Hunt Story

Awesome hunt! Got to hay bale blind a little late around 4:30. We chilled for a while, checking the field about every 5 or 10 minutes. I read the new December Issue of the GON, while Jenna played on her phone to pass the time while we waited. By 5:40 we had not seen anything and started getting or stuff packed to go when I looked up and out of nowhere there was a buck 50 yards in front of us. I told her to get the gun and get ready. She didn't pay me any attention because all through the season I've been messing with her about deer coming out when there really wasn't anything there. I grabbed the gun and placed it on top of the hay bale. At that time it sank in that this time I was not joking. She got on the buck for about 10 seconds then looked at me saying she was scared. I told her to calm down, and that he didn't even know we were there. She put the crosshairs on him again, and again she looked at me again all shook up and shaking, but I don't think she was shaking as much as me. I hugged her said you can do it. She got on him for the third time and placed a perfect shot right through the front shoulder. The buck jumped 3 feet in the air but didn't run. He was wobbling around and was slowly walking toward the wood line. We put another shell in her single shot .223 and again put another shot on the money. The buck dropped in the food plot right there. I looked at her and she was crying. She looked at me and said, "Daddy I just did that." I cannot express the feeling I felt at that moment. I hugged her and said, "Yes you did baby." We celebrated in awe of her first deer which was a awesome 11-point buck.
