Hunt Story

After work, I hurried into the woods, and this particular day I decided to hunt in a location that I haven’t hunted all year due to the loud acoustics of the wind. So, I settled in and the waiting game began. About an hour before dark, I started to see shadows passing in front of the falling sun. As it continued to fall, I couldn’t tell if anything was around 200 yards away. Another 30 minutes passed, as I stood I caught a glimpse of a deer, but I couldn’t see him when I lowered my binoculars. Finally, at a distance of around 125 yards, he began to chase a doe. I thought I had lost him, so I began to blow my grunt several times to catch his attention and draw him near. It felt like 10 minutes had passed, although it was probably only 3 minutes that actually passed before I caught another glimpse of him. After what seemed to be a long time of sitting and watching only his side, I was able to find him through the scope, but I didn’t have a clean shot. So, I kept waiting. I finally found a small opening with a clean shot, so I kept waiting. About 10 seconds later, he appeared, and I dropped him. I had no idea just how big he was until I walked up to him. What a blessing! Life is good. Special thanks to my brother Darrel and my friend Chad for the much appreciated help.
