Hunt Story
After daybreak I saw what appeared to be a doe on the other side of the creek bottom. About 20 minutes later some turkeys gave me a show at about 20 yards and then walked their way off. The wind kicked up a notch and the leaves were falling pretty good, which made hearing a deer walk pretty hard. As luck would have it, I heard two footsteps behind me so as I eased around to take a peek, and there he was at 30 yards. And of course he saw me right off the bat, and I was at an eye-to-eye standstill with him. After he decided he did not like what he saw, he bolted about 15 yards and stopped broad sided, so I took a chance and stood in the stand, turned around as he was standing watching, and I propped on the tree I was in and took the only shot I had, which was a neck shot, and he dropped where he stood. I have several nice deer on the wall, but this is by far the heaviest antlered buck I have ever taken. One of the best weekends of hunting I have had in a long time as far as seeing deer.
