Hunt Story
Dad and I got picked for our annual deer hunt on Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge for the Nov. 5-7 either-sex hunt. It was a lot warmer and wetter than seasons past. However, like always, it still turned out great! I was able to take a nice 4 1/2-year-old buck. On the first morning, Dad and I were hunting roughly 150 yards apart in some hardwoods. Dad had made a mock scrape and put out some doe estrus before climbing his stand. I picked an area below him, about 150 yards away, to place my stand. It was a little after daylight when Dad started working the grunt tube and bleat can. At 7:25 a.m., I noticed a good-sized buck searching for the realistic sounds Dad was making. I decided to shoot before he caught onto the game plan. He fell to the ground instantly about 50 yards away. It turned out to be a another memorable hunt with my favorite hunting partner, my DAD.
