Hunt Story

On November 10, I had a good feeling about the conditions for the day. I have witnessed bucks chasing the weekend before and I also was with a buddy named Bo Weickum, who had killed a nice buck that Saturday. He was the one who gave me the fever to go get after one. After school on the 10th, I went home and grabbed my Browning rifle and Summit portable and made my way to the land I hunt. I had been procrastinating on finding a good spot to hunt due to harsh weather conditions. So here I am when I arrive at my land not knowing where to set up. I had a good idea where I wanted to go. I went and hung my portable on a random tree overlooking a bottom with a bunch of food source. About an hour into my hunt I had a doe run right up on me, and I kid you not I could of spat on her head, She was right under me minding her own business. I let her do her thing and walk on by. At this point I was just feeling myself, I told myself this is my chance for a buck to come running in. I waited and waited, about 30 minutes later I heard some noises at the bottom of the ridge I was hunting. I grabbed my ol' Bone Collector grunt call and hit it a couple of times and heard even more movement. I waited about 10 minutes and saw this buck coming about one hundred yards away. he was walking to me head on so i couldnt really tell what kind of rack he had. Something grabbed his attention and i saw him turn left and that time i got a good look at his rack and it was on. I drew my rifle up and I kid you not I was shaking so bad that my gun was rattling against the metal on my climber. The buck went broadside and i let my .270 eat. The buck folded on the spot and took a dirt nap. I waited about thirty minutes and got out of there to go to my grandpa's house. I called my dad, and I was so shocked that I could barely even tell him what i had just done. I told my grandpa when i arrived and he cooked me a nice steak, so I sat down and ate to give the buck some time. The last thing I wanted to do was spook him. About an hour later I had my buddy Austin Miller come help me to load him up. We took his z71 on down to where I shot him. We slowly walked to my stand and took the lane where I had laid eyes on him and shot him. We were walking through the woods and saw a white belly from a distance with a beautiful rack sticking up. I couldnt believe it, I did it. The buck I have been after since early bow season is dead. I wish I had a video of how excited I was. There is nothing like experiencing this feeling. I was hooting and hollering for about 15 minutes. We dragged him out of the woods and got a couple of pictures and then took him to the processor I go to called "Moore's." It was a done deal. My dreams came true that day.
