Hunt Story
I went to my family farm in Dooly County after work on October 26, 2015. I got into my box stand that sits in the middle of 18-year-old planted pines around 6:00 pm. The box stand overlooks a 3-acre food plot that has been mowed recently, but nothing has ever been planted there. The only food source in this plot was the remains of two bags of cracked corn that was put out about two weeks ago. The wind was gusting about 10-15 mph as a weather system passed through, and it was drizzling rain. I sat in the stand about 40 minutes without seeing anything. Around 6:40, this buck entered the food plot about 75 yards away. The buck appeared to be cruising for does. I had a clear view of him and could see it was a legal buck. As he started to walk away, he was quartering, and I pulled up my gun and aimed at the last rib and angled the shot up into the center of his body. The buck ran about 60 yards into the planted pines and dropped dead.
