Hunt Story
I got to my stand around 5:00 pm. My stand was situated along a planted pine area overlooking a fescue hay field that has volunteer rye grass, which I had noticed deer feeding on a few days before. There are lots of big buck signs in an adjacent hardwood drain. I had hunted this stand the evening prior to this kill and saw several deer. I watched this deer feeding in the pines behind me for several minutes before I realized it was a shooter buck! Eventually, he made his way onto the field to feed on the rye grass. After watching for several minutes with the binoculars, I decided this was a buck I wanted to take. He presented a broadside shot at 60 yards, I took aim, and fired. The deer bolted and ran to the far side of the field and stopped. I knew he was hit, but took a second shot. He ran out of the field and out of site. I called a friend to help with tracking if needed. We let some time pass and went to the area where I saw the deer run into the woods and went no more than 30 yards to recover my deer. What a great feeling it was to take my first BUCK!
