Hunt Story

On Friday, Oct. 23, 2015 at 6:30 in the morning, my dad and I decided to go hunting in the field behind our house. My dad had been telling about this nice buck he kept seeing, so I decided that it was my time to get my first buck, and I skipped college that morning to do so. Thankfully, it paid off. My dad and I were sitting in a tower stand that overlooked our property, and the whole morning I was so sleepy I could barely keep my eyes open. At around 8:25 a.m., I told my dad I was ready to get down and he said, “Let's sit here for 15 more minutes." I didn't want to sit there because I was sleepy, so I laid back in the stand and closed my eyes while my dad watched for the buck to come out. Right before it was time to get down, my said, "There he is!" I jumped up, grabbed my .243, and tried to put the scope on him. He never stopped walking until my dad blew the grunt call, and right when he stopped, BAM. I shot him in the shoulder. He only ran about 45 feet and then we found him. We thought he was a 9-pointer until we lifted his head up and saw all the kickers and realized he had 13 points. Needless to say, I was very excited to kill my first buck!
