Hunt Story

My son and I hunt on a club of forestar land in Lumpkin County located between Hwy 9 and Hwy 52. With all the rain from Friday through Saturday, it took us forever to get to camp from North Carolina: stop and get little man's license, groceries, gas, etc. No time to spare, we had to get in the woods and quick because the storm had passed with some wind still blowing. I set up a ground blind overlooking one of my food plots planted with tall tine tubers from the Whitetail Institute and settled in for the evening hunt. With darkness coming, I looked up from my phone and saw a nice buck! I told my son, "That's a buck, shoot!" With the help of Caldwell's Deadshot Fieldpod shooting rest, Asa lined up and fired the Weatherby youth model .243. The buck turned and ran back in the woods. After finding hair and blood, we knew he had hit the deer. Getting help from other club members we found the deer about 100 yards away. A well-placed shot, right behind the shoulder, just a little high. Not bad for his first deer, first time shooting a rifle, first tracking job and an 8-point at that. A very proud Dad! Job well done, son. Thanks for the memories!
