Hunt Story

I arrived to the stand at sat down at about 5:30. I keep hearing something knock around and around behind me and sure enough it was a squirrel trying to hide his nuts for winter. So I turn back around, and there this 8-point stood about 20 yards right in front of me on the edge of the food plot. There was no doubt in my mind that this was a shooter buck. But I was pinned down with the bow in my lap. Thankfully I was turned in the direction he was headed. So he started to make his was into the food plot, but he did not seem interested in stopping for a bite to eat. It was like he was just cruising by. I knew time was of the essence and every seconded counted. He made his was through the food plot and at one point roughly 3 yards from the bottom of my stand. He keep walking up the food plot and turned and look up towards the planted pines, which gave me the split second I needed to get my bow in shooting position. Now I am just thinking to myself if I can just get my bow back, I will be in good shape. He glanced down at the food plot, which gave me the chance to come into full draw. The buck took a few more steps, and I gave him was of those classic doe blets, "Maahh." He stopped and turned and gave me a great quartering-away shot at 20 yards. I sent my dad a text saying I just harvested my first buck with a bow. I was pumped to say the least. He said, he would get down out of his stand a little early and we would track him. We start tracking him and about 40 yards from the point of impact I hear my dad say " there he is". We got a good High 5 in and loaded him up in the truck and took him to the processors.
