Ronnie Garrison | March 11, 2025

Duane Case and son Thomas with a 6.82-lb. bass and a 5.10-lb. bass. In the back is Chuck Dennard with a 4.60-pounder. These anglers fished Saturday’s Flint River Bass Club tournament on Oconee.

Duane Case and his son, Thomas, had a good day in the March 9 Flint River Bass Club tournament on Oconee. Thomas had a 6.82-pounder for big fish, and his three fish went 9.20 pounds and placed him third out of nine anglers. Thomas had five at 11.33 for first and that included a 5.17-pounder.

The river was muddy, but they found clearer water at the mouths of some small creeks and caught at least 20 bass on blue/chrome crankbaits and shaky heads with junebug finesse worms with chartreuse tails. Rocky points seemed to be the key. The 6-pounder hit a crankbait, and the five came on shaky heads. Most of the fish were frustrating, 13.5-inch throwbacks.

Allen Whitten said he ran to Sugar Creek, but it was muddy. His four bass at 9.48 pounds was good for second.

There were two more bass over 4 pounds each. One was caught on a Carolina rig off a rocky point.

Brent Drake caught four at 8.39 pounds on that pattern for fourth. His partner Chuck Denard had a 4.60.

I thought I found a spinnerbait pattern on rip-rap but stayed on it too long and ended up with four weighing 8.19 pounds for fifth.

Fish were caught on a wide variety of baits, including spinnerbaits and jigs, as well as crankbaits and shaky heads and Carolina rigs.
