Hunt Story
Nine-point with broke off G3 on right side. Figured to be 2 1/2 year old. Always came in after a spike and a "right rack only" deer. Those two must have been his "lookouts". He usually did not come in any closer than 34 yards. The day before, he came in twice. I thought "all" the deer could hear my heart thumping in my chest. I was patient, wanting to get a good clean shot. My husband is a good coach, but alas I was unsure of my distances and the light of the day was resting down. I did not shoot. The next day I was settled in my tree stand, 20 feet up at 4:30 p.m. There were alot of birds and squirrels taking advantage of the corn...one squirrel just so happened to have a nest in a dead tree next to my stand. Around 5:45 p.m. in came the spike and the right rack only. I was so still with a squirrel "barking" in my left ear. I had to make a decision if that squirrel jumped on my head. In came "Hightop" right before 6 pm from the opposite direction that he usually came in. Of course he stayed way out. Then he circled and gave me a beautiful broadside at 20 yards. I shot, he bucked and ran off about 60 yards. I waited 30 minutes, found the arrow covered in blood, my husband and I followed the blood trail. We found him, got the tractor and loaded him on the box scrape. I am blessed that everything, thanks to God, came together in that one moment.
