Hunt Story
What a week it was leading up to this. After dealing with the game wardens for witnessing a young and dumb 16 year old kid shoot my target buck from the dirt road at 8am on a Saturday. I was kind of in a slump. I was mad, I was sad I had all kinds of emotions after seeing someone just take all my hardwork that I’ve put into this big deer I’ve been chasing for 2 years. So I didn’t go for 3-4 days cause of that and work. Well one afternoon while at work, I noticed how fast the temp was dropping and decided to give it a go. I usually bow hunt but this late decision to sit gave me no time to shower or even change for that matter, so I grabbed my old .308 from the house and went to the stand in my work clothes. It was hands down the slowest hunt I’ve had in many years haha. So slow I debated on getting down early and started to pack my bag up. As I’m putting things into my backpack I hear some walking in the bottom I over look and see some legs walking. I throw my binocs up and see the buck I call “Tank.” Now tank is named for just having a large body and basically in charge of this bottom. But Tank continues to work the bottom checking his scrapes and rubs and move on to the next. He finally provided me a shot at 120 yards where he runs another 30 yards and falls. Now fast forward a couple days naming him Tank was the most perfect name he could’ve received. This old man ended up being 7.5 years old, broke nose, cracked jaw, missing teeth, and cracks in his bases. Sure is hard to stop an old tank.
