Hunt Story
We had been running cameras on our lease all year without any sign of a shooter—until about two weeks ago, when this 10-point buck appeared. At first, we only got a few daylight pictures before he disappeared again for several days. Determined to hunt him, I decided my best chance was an afternoon sit. With a full moon and winds over 10 mph, my expectations weren’t high. I set up on a power line surrounded by clear cuts from a few years back, with shooting lanes cut in each direction. As I waited, a doe entered one of the shooting lanes to feed, and sure enough, the 10-point buck was trailing her. He held in the thicket for a few minutes before finally stepping out and giving me a 75-yard shot. I took it, and he dropped in his tracks. This just goes to show that a shooter can show up when you least expect it.
