Oaky Woods WMA Pot Farm Raided

GON Staff | October 1, 2016

You never know what you’ll find in the woods, even on a WMA.

DNR Sgt. Dan Parrish, WRD Area Manager Ray Jones and Wayne Franklin with the Houston County Sheriff’s Department arrested Donald Edward Anderson, of Warner Robins, as he attempted to leave with more than 10 pounds of harvested marijuana that was growing on Oaky Woods WMA. The arrest took place on Sept. 18, 1996.

“He could have spit on us he was so close,” said Franklin.

The three law enforcement officers spent three days watching one of nine plots on the WMA. On day three, Anderson approached, walked within 10 feet of Sgt. Parrish and proceeded to cut leaves from the 7- to 10-foot tall marijuana plants. Before the agents revealed themselves, Anderson led them to five other plots of pot that the officers were not aware of, they said.

At Anderson’s home, officers said they found two bedrooms filled with drying pot. In all, Anderson had 600 pounds of pot, valued then at $660,000 if sold by the pound. On the street, the pot would have sold for about $3 million.
