Hunt Story

My youngest son had scouted out Dawson Forest WMA and found the spot where a mature buck had been using. He and I hunted the second rifle hunt in the area where he had located but only saw several young bucks and a lot of does. On opening day of the third rifle hunt my youngest son couldn’t hunt because he works as law enforcement and couldn’t hunt the first day. My oldest son and I hunted in 25mph wind and saw no deer. Second morning we woke up to a 22 degree cold, still, crisp morning. After not seeing anything, around 9:45am a very small doe came running up from the creek bottom and within 80 yards behind her was the buck. About 60 yards behind the buck was the fawns mother. The buck walked into an open spot that he knew wasn’t safe but it was too late because he was already in my scope. About 15 minutes later I was texting my son big buck down.
