Hunt Story

I had many trail-cam pictures of this buck over the last few seasons. He’s been a big 8-point for the last three years, and this year he was a pretty impressive 8-point with good mass. I believe him to be 5-6 years old. My son and I hunted this buck many days trying to let him get him, but as luck would have it he showed up on a day I was by myself. We have hunted this buck many times and I have many photos and videos of him. We just never seen him out of the stand until the afternoon of Dec 1st. It was a cool afternoon and I was set up watching a 50-acre clearcut. I have a big food plot right in the middle of it. The afternoon was full of deer movement and by late afternoon about 10 does and yearlings were feeding on the Harvest Advantage food plot. I also had been pouring out Roasted Racks by 4S Feeds to get great pictures. I was scrolling through social media not paying attention when all of a sudden all the deer started looking up the hill. I pulled up my binoculars and ssaween the big 8-point standing at about 250 yards looking the food plot over. I got the .243 on him and followed him as he slowly slipped down the hill and closer to the does. As he got to within 170-180 yards he stopped almost broadside. I settled the crosshairs behind the shoulder and squeezed off a round. Boom and then whack, I heard the impact of the bullet. He whirled around and ran back over the hill. I called a couple of buddies who came and help me look for him. He only made it a short distance just over the hilltop out of sight.
