Hunt Story

When we finally got a cold front with a NW wind, I knew I needed to be in the Sportsman's Condo on the powerline down at Dreamland in Meriwether County. I arrived last Friday afternoon at about 3:30 pm and was just settled in when deer began appearing. I was up to 6 does and one young buck when I saw a doe walking in the hardwoods across the powerline in front of me from right to left. As I watched her a good buck appeared right on her trail following her with his nose right on her tail. I saw that it was a good buck and as soon as he turned I saw enough width to confirm he was one I wanted to shoot. They continued down the hill below me and she turned to cross the powerline. I was ready just before he stepped into the open. At his appearing I settled on his front shoulder and let the Sako 300 WSM eat. He ran across the powerline carrying his leg; as his shoulder was broke; and I heard him crash. I am blessed to take another good buck. 17 1/2" inside spread with 22 1/4" and 21 1/2" main beams. Right at 132 inches as an 8-point.
