Hunt Story

I had an encounter with this buck the prior Saturday afternoon. He came out at 3:30 and never gave me a shot I felt comfortable with. I went back into the thick creek bottom Friday morning and set up about 150 yards from where I had the prior encounter. The terrain funneled down and I felt like I was in a better position to get a shot on a deer. I had a buck chasing three does as soon as it was light enough to see, but they were too far, and moving too much, to ever have a shot opportunity. A few minutes before 9 a.m. I caught movement about 80 yards in front of me. This buck and a smaller buck were coming towards me. He stopped about 30 yards out, under a red oak, and began to feed. I took my shot and he ran 40 yards and expired.
