Hunt Story

At 74 yrs old, I have really been enjoying this deer season and looking forward to every hunt, especially when so much of my time is devoted to coaching young shotgun athletes. I got settled into the stand a little later than normal at around 5:45 a.m. it started breaking daylight and I had seen a few does and a couple of young bucks and about 60 plus head of yelping turkeys. I was watching the fingers of the food plot when a doe came flying out and I knew there had to be a buck behind her, I readied my rifle and this 4 1/2-year-old buck came out wide open, I bleated and he stopped, and the next thing that happened which I'm accustomed to being a shotgun Coach. My rifle snapped, bad primer, this deer stood still as I chambered another round lightning fast and made the shot dropping him in his tracks. After a 60-year hunting career and spending countless hours in the woods all my life, I'm never surprised as to what you may see. I took pictures of 38 turkeys around this deer and some them pecking this deer as if to say wake up buddy. Wonderful life experience and I thank God for every opportunity to be able to hunt and enjoy his great creations, a Heritage that We have been so blessed with!
