Hunt Story
The afternoon started off with a stop at the gas station for some snacks and a drink, whether you are 5 or 75 these are necessities for a good sit in the deer blind! Waylon (AKA "W") was itching to go to a blind I have set on a small food plot where his brother and sister (Tripp and Charlotte) killed deer last season. We finally got in the blind and settled around 4:20pm, not long after I could hear the rustling of a pack of peanut butter square nabs (AKA Lance Crackers) easing out of W's pocket. We shared a pack and settled in for the afternoon sit. Not long after around 5pm I looked up and saw a deer easing into the food plot from our right, it was a BUCK!! As soon as "W" saw that it was a buck he got locked in and ready. The deer fed facing us for a little while before turning broad side enough for a shot. "W" put the crosshairs on the buck's shoulder and squeezed the trigger on his 6.8mm SPC. He made a good shot, and the deer ran back to the right into the pines and piled up off the edge of the food plot. "W" has put in a lot of practice shooting since the summer starting with a pellet rifle w/scope, then a .22LR and finally with the gun he was hunting with a 6.8mm SPC. He was very determined and proved to me that he was ready and could make a good shot. I am very proud of little man's drive and dedication. Another deer hunter made, lifetime memories made, and one proud Daddy!!
