Hunt Story
The Unseen Eight. Only the day before November 13 of 2024 had I caught a glimpse of this buck on camera around mid morning. My camera notified me so I went in on my Moultrie app and there he was, a perfect 8, such a beautiful buck almost perfect typical if you ask me. I haven’t seen this deer anytime this year or last as I recall, just showed up outta nowhere. He wasn’t my target buck but indeed he made the list after I saw his photo. I run a small trucking company, and we’ve been pretty steady working with farmers to bring the peanuts from the fields to the buying points, and it just so happened that night of the photo and the next morning was forecast for light showers and cloudy. So it made the conditions for picking not favorable. I decided to give it a try in the stand that morning. Same usual routine, have some coffee, throw on some camouflage, head to the stand. Got in about 6:30 am ish. Told myself I was gone sit till about 11 am. No action all the way up till about 9:45 and all of a sudden couple year-old or so does came running in on the plot area. Got me a little fired up, and all the sudden I heard a grunt off in distance. It kept getting louder and closer, low and behold guess who came up in like he owned the place. Started running the two off the plot . He circled back around and gave me the opportunity on perfect broadside shot so I sent it. First thing was first after the shout I gave the Lord the praise and waited patiently as I had watched him run about 50 yards or so into a thicket with a loud crash I waited it out about 30 minutes and walked over and was beside myself. Man what an experience. I love the outdoors and what God has blessed us all to enjoy. I didn’t measure him out but I’ll know soon enough.
