Hunt Story

We had been seeing several nice bucks on camera and this one showed up about 2 weeks ago. I knew it was a deer that I wanted to take based on the trail camera pictures we had. That morning as it was breaking daylight I saw a big body deer in the pines going back and forth behind our gravity feeder. I couldn’t tell if it was a shooter buck or not. A few minutes later he walked out and my heart starting racing! We have another buck on camera that we call “Skyscraper” because of his super tall G2’s and 3’s but we determined we were gonna give him another year based on his age. I wanted to make sure it wasn’t him so I was texting my husband back and forth asking him to look on our camera to make sure it wasn’t Skyscraper. It was the longest few minutes of my life! I knew he was huge but wanted confirmation. He assured me that it wasn’t him as he text me back “shoot!” I was having a moral battle with myself because both my boys haven’t killed a buck in 2 years on our property so I wanted to save it for them, but thankfully my husband, loudly via text, said that I might not get this opportunity again on a huge buck of this size. I lowered the crosshairs on my 6.5 Creedmoor to behind his front shoulder and squeezed the trigger! The big 10 just kinda lopped off a slow trot. I thought I had missed based on the deers reaction. I decided to give it an hour as to not push him if it was not good shot. My husband who was hunting 400-500 yards from me told me the shot sounded like a hit from there. Well the shot was true and he didn’t go 20! Walking up to him he was bigger than we thought. A big 10 point! Hunts like this one I will never forget and it’s only the 3rd year we have owned tree property. A special buck for sure.
