Hunt Story

Settled into a box stand right at daylight, overlooking a 4-year-old cutover where the deer activity had been pretty good for a week or so. I sat there enjoying the morning without any deer movement, thinking about several things, but one in particular. It was November 4th. In the past 20 years I've had many encounters with some really good Georgia deer on the 4th & 5th. As the morning moves on with a 10 mph northeast wind & a much needed rain shower on the way, still no activity. About 8:15 I heard a buck grunt to my left and close. He was standing on a high spot About 60 yards away. He didn't stay still for long, he was on the move either behind a doe I never saw or looking for the next one. I'd seen this deer a few days ago but it was in the last few minutes of shooting light and he really didn't look like a deer i wanted to take. This morning he looked a little different. He had a massive body and a couple of split tines that I could see good. Looked to be 4 or 5 yr. Old. No real history with this one but, time to shoot. After a brief track and a tough drag we had another mature buck down on the 4th. Very grateful for my freedom and a chance to make memories.
