Hunt Story

I have been seeing this deer on camera since June and thought he was an 8 point with a missing brow tine on the left side. When Hurricane Helene ripped through Lowndes county, she completely changed the landscape of all the pine trees surrounding my stand and they have now been clear cut. I was very disappointed when I saw all the pines were cut, but I was still hopeful about my new hunting spot. I have never been hunting with a muzzleloader so I borrowed my Mom’s and on opening day of the season, I decided to get in the stand around 4:30 p.m. I only saw a coyote and a bobcat until right before dark when a doe tip-toed in to feed. She immediately kept looking behind her, so I slowly turned my head and saw what I thought was an 8 point slowly making his way in front of my stand. He stopped 40- 50 yards in front of the stand with his back to me and began to feed. After about 2 minutes he slightly turned and I was able to get a shot but I could not see where he ran to afterwards. My husband left his stand after dark and came to pick me up and we went to look for blood but could not find any. We finally found him lying 25 yards from where I shot him and that is when we realized he was a 10 point with 2 brow tines on the right that turned in backwards. Needless to say, I was very excited to kill this 194 lb 10 point which is my biggest deer to date.
