Hunt Story

I climbed into my stand around 3:20 p.m. Saturday afternoon. I was hunting out of a 12-foot tripod on the side of a logging road in some planted pines. I had been feeding regular corn in the logging road for a couple of weeks and I started getting daylight pictures of a good main-frame 10-pointer with stickers on both G2s. He was coming out between 6 and 7 p.m. As I sat and waited I probably had around 10 deer come through at different times, and they were all acting skittish because there was a good wind with 15-18 mph gusts. My son and daughter were hunting on the same property with me, and around 6:30 my daughter called and in a shaky whisper told me that she had shot one of her target bucks. I was so excited thinking maybe we could double up on opening day. It wasn't long after the call that I saw my target buck approaching around 6:50 p.m. He stayed just off the road in the pines and I waited until he stepped into my shooting lane. He stopped for a few seconds and I drew back and shot him my Mathews bow that I had won from the GON Truck-Buck Contest last year and a Rage Trypan NC broadhead. The shot was good and I later recovered him just a little over one hundred yards away. It was an awesome night being able to double up with my daughter!
