GON’s Pay Dove Shoots List

Some dove shoots offer discounts for kids who hunt.

The new hunting season is just around the corner as we print GON’s annual Pay Dove Shoots list. Dial these phone numbers, reserve your spots and shoot straight. Dove hunting will legally begin one-half hour before sunrise on opening day, Saturday, Sept. 7. Some of these shoots may wait until the traditional 12 p.m. start time, so do your homework before you purchase a spot on a field.

GON doesn’t endorse the fields or properties that appear on the Dove Shoots list. We simply provide an opportunity for dove-field owners to let y’all know about their fields, while providing our readers with options to shoot birds.

There are a number of public-land dove-hunting opportunities that you can check out on pages 60-61. Some of those shoots are quota-only, while others are open to whoever wants to show up. Deadline to apply for WMA dove quota hunts is Aug. 15, so act fast.

Dodge Co.: Shoot Date—31st anniversary dove shoot. Sept. 7, 21; Nov. 30. Call about hunts in December and January. Field—Four fields totaling 200 acres. September is over sunflowers and corn. November is peanuts and wheat. Cost—$225/gun gets you all three shoots. Kids 12 and younger or wives sitting with a paid member are $25. A 50% deposit is required to hold your spots. Amenities—Catered BBQ lunch is provided on opening day, along with multiple gun/cooler raffles. Fishing, skeet shooting and bathrooms will be provided, as well. Elbert Co.: Shoot Date—Opening day; call for later shoots. Field—Two fields totaling 10 acres in millet. Cost—$225 for opening day. Amenities—Cabin rental, bathroom, RV hook-ups, BBQ lunch, drinks. Contact—Scott Moore, 678.361.7107.

Gordon Co.: Shoot Date—Sept. 7. Field—Three fields totaling 60 acres in wheat, sunflowers and corn. Cost—$200/gun. Amenities—None. Contact—Carol, 706.266.6871.

Jones Co.: Shoot Date—Sept. 7-9. Field—80-acre field planted in sunflowers and browntop millet. Cost—Looking to lease to a cooperate group. Amenities—Water and restrooms. Contact—Grady Miller, 478.986.7684.

Putnam Co.: Shoot Date—Sept. 7 at Green Glades Farm. Field—Seven fields totaling 250 acres in browntop millet and corn. Cost—$150/gun. Contact—Chad, 706-318-0243.
