Hunt Story

I saw this buck the evening prior, but at the time I thought he appeared too small to harvest. I decided I would pass him up and wait for a bigger buck. I knew a cold front was coming in, so I went in for an early evening hunt around 3:00 p.m. the next evening. I was hunting from a climbing stand about 30 feet high. I watched a few younger bucks and does beneath my stand. When he came in, he ran them off the food plot. I watched him for about ten minutes and realized he was bigger than he appeared the previous night. I made a 30-yard shot at about 6:30 p.m. but waited 30 minutes or so before coming down the tree to prevent startling him. I knew it was a good shot. The arrow was in the ground and there was a trail of blood. To give him time to pass, I returned the next morning to track him. He had only traveled 100 yards from the stand. It was a perfect double lung shot using a fixed blade broadhead.
