Hunt Story
On the evening of 09/28 I took my 13-year-old son, Grady, to hunt the deer we called the "split buck". We live in Cordele but our land is in the northern part of Turner County so it's only about a 15-minute drive. We got settled in the stand around 5:00 PM and immediately started seeing deer, does then younger bucks. I counted 23 different deer during the hunt. It was mostly overcast and I had a feeling that the split buck might come out while we still had shooting light. Sure enough he stepped into the food plot shortly before dark but with plenty of good light. He slowly worked his way in and he stopped at 33 yards broadside. Grady heart shot him with a Raven crossbow but at the time of the shot I had no idea. I couldn't see the arrow hit but we had a bloody arrow and good blood immediately. We backed out and I told my neighbors we had gotten a shot as they were getting pics of him too the past couple of years. They offered to come help me track it. The tracking ending up being easy, the deer bled all the way and made it less than 100 yards before piling up. We haven't taped him yet but believe he will gross well into the 160s.
