Hunt Story
I’ve only had this deer on camera in daylight once. He showed up about a month ago and would sometimes be with my #1 shooter on this property but sometimes be separate. I had a good feeling the weather on that Thursday would have them moving early. Right after I got in the stand, I had several Turkey come through followed by a couple jakes. One stopped right in the clearing and I got a clear video of him gobbling. Watched a couple doe, fawn and small bucks come by then I looked up and “Zeke” is walking straight for me. He started to act a little skittish so I knew not to waste any time. When he walked behind a limb, I clipped in and as soon as he cleared the limb, I drew back. He stopped perfectly broadside so I released the arrow from my Hoyt Ventum and immediately knew he wouldn’t go far. I watched him run a few yards then slow down and start to stagger before he crept into the wood line. I got down quick to go check my arrow and see if he fell just inside the wood line. The blood on the arrow looked good but I saw where he went in so I walked over and there he was, five yards into the wood line. My new biggest deer and first pope and young. I decided not to walk up on him to recover him until my girlfriend made it down so she could be there for the moment! Only the third hunt of the season! Can’t wait to see what the rest of the season holds!
