Hunt Story

Because I was so busy with football, this was my first opportunity to hunt with my bow. My grandfather has been working with me for the last couple months to get me and my bow ready to kill my first archery deer. With football season over the day before, my dad picked me up from school and asked if I wanted to hunt that evening. I had tons of homework to do, so I immediately started working on it in the truck. After I got home, I finished up most of my homework and then dad and I took some time to shoot my bow. After a dozen or so arrows, I was ready to go. We headed to our hunting property and got in the tree just a few minutes after 5:00 pm. My dad and I were in trees about 10 yards apart. I saw the buck first, but instead of coming in by me, like we expected, he came in from the other side, closer to my dad. The buck began to feed on some acorns and eventually made his way behind me, offering a 10-yard broadside shot. Dad gave me the thumbs up to shoot, so I drew my bow and put my top pin right behind the shoulder, just like we had practiced a couple hours earlier. After a 30-minute wait and another 30 minutes of tracking, I had my First Archery Deer.
