Hunt Story

It was a clear afternoon, and I had gotten in the stand about 2:00 p.m. on our hunting lease in Dooly County, Georgia. The bucks were chasing does, so there was action most of the hunt. About 4:00 a doe came across the food plot running very fast as if being chased. One minute later a spike buck comes grunting behind and trailing her. Not three minutes after that, another buck was trailing her. It was a really nice 8-pointer but not big enough to shoot. The forest went quiet for a moment, and then all of the sudden, I hear the crashing gallop of what sounds like a big deer. As he moved closer, I began to see his rack and I knew it was big and tall, with mass. I felt confident this was a shooter per our club rules and would definitely be the biggest deer I have ever killed if I could be fortunate enough to get him. The food plot opening is narrow, so I knew I would only have a few seconds to shoot. He walked out, I pulled my gun up, made the "meh" noise to stop him, flipped the safety off and and I shot. He dropped immediately and I knew I had killed the biggest buck of my life! What a hunt!
