Hunt Story

I first saw this deer on camera three years ago, and he was a 10-point with very little mass. Last year I had this deer on trail cameras everywhere and wanted to take him until I saw him while I was hunting one morning, and I knew then he would be bigger next year. I decided to let him walk until this year. On Dec. 9 at 5:30 p.m., he came out of a thicket into a 10-acre grown-up field. I was in my climber about 25 feet up a pine just 20 yards into the woods from the field he came out in. I had very little time to shoot due to small oak trees in my path. He walked right to an opening and stopped, and that's when I took the shot. He ran roughly 30 yards down toward the center of the field and fell.
